Elle Exxe – Sick / Single Review

13th SEPTEMBER / LX RECORDS / LIKE IT

Elle Exxe appears to be the newest name to keep to your lips this year. The Scottish singer has burst onto the scene and has already begun to do cool things like play in New York, play surprise takeover gigs at Google HQ and hang out in South Korea for a bit. Her debut album ‘Love Fuelled Hate’ is out later this week, but for now we have Sick.

Sick features an instrumental full of slick guitars and nostalgic synthesisers which fit nicely against Elle’s husky voice. It is rife with simple vocal hooks and very interesting moments of sound, particularly on the chorus which seemingly allows the track to explode with pure pop goodness. It’s another case of pop music that goes against the synthetic ‘flavour of the month’ formula the genre seems to mass produce – this is simply a great song, and the guitar solo towards the end of it? Amazing.
