The Sea Atlas – ‘Ripped Jeans’ | Single Review

The Sea Atlas is the project of singer-songwriter Calum Buchanan, and this new single – ‘Ripped Jeans’ – looks to build upon the release of last year’s debut album Dreams. Personally, I don’t see the appeal of ripped jeans, especially the ones that seem to have rips all the way up the legs. It just seems excessive to me. Plus, don’t you hate when you put them on and your toe sticks through the hole? Ugh, it’s infuriating.

Fortunately this new single is anything but infuriating, and I’d gladly stick my toe through it. The instrumental is built on a canvas of ragged-edged guitars, desert-tinged synths and a drum beat that’s sturdy as anything. Calum’s vocals add to the real sunset vibes of the track, and I love that he allows the track to lay down a couple grooves here and there too. It’s a track that could easily focus on the emotion, but is allowed to throw down a dance move or two. It’s great.
