Sunday Arches dropped an EP back in January called Feels Like Home and I really liked it as well as the single ‘Holding A Flame’ which was featured on the blog in April. It felt lonely without them so here’s an interview! Inside our conversation you can see that we talk about the band’s formation, Feels Like Home and what their plans are for the rest of the year. Enjoy.
Hey Sunday Arches, how’s it going? Evening Adam. Very well. Thanks for asking.
Firstly, what’s the story behind the formation of the band and how you came up with that name? We first formed in Colchester, Essex around 2003, under a different name, fresh faced, and armed with Korg pedals and power chords. A few belters and a dodgy cover of a cover later, we each went our separate ways until reforming again in a practice room under the arches of Clapham Junction in 2015, usually rehearsing on a Sunday.
You released your second EP Feels Like Home at the start of the year. What have you been up to since? Between gigs at The Islington, Angel and The Monarch in Camden, we’ve been promoting the EP and were fortunate enough to have ‘Holding a Flame’ played by Tom Robinson on his BBC 6Music Saturday evening show after being selected for the BBC Introducing Mixtape . We’ve also been working on some new material which will be showcasing live over the summer.
The EP seemed to detract slightly away from the sounds heard on your debut Extended Play. Was this a conscious decision and should we expect to hear it on future releases? I think our abilities as a band had developed and we wanted the style of music and production to mirror that. We wanted a sharper, punchier sound which I think we managed. I think you can hear more confidence in our playing on the second EP. The more we play the more ambitious we become. We want to continue pushing beyond our limits with every release.
Speaking of future releases, should we expect to hear more music from you this year? We are hoping to get back in the studio with a few new tracks later this year so watch this space. We’re pleased with how the writing is coming along and look forward to getting some new material out there.
