Argonaut & Wasp return with new single ‘Pretend You Know’. The duo have had a rather productive year and this latest tune looks to be the perfect way to wrap of summer with one final boogie. The inspiration behind it is a real trip: “It was a crazy dream… Imagine sitting in the backseat of a car with Smash Mouth’s Steve Harwell (but is he really Guy Fieri?) dressed up as Sergeant Pepper ripping down ‘66 with Mike D as Co-Pilot playing all the unreleased Beastie Boys demo’s. Yea… so we wrote a song about it.” I absolutely want to be friends with them.
Somehow, ‘Pretend You Know’ matches the absolute chaos of that dream. Light, summery guitars flood the world with sunshine, with drums bashing some seriously groovy rhythms into the mind. The chorus gives me old school vibes of FIFA World Cup adverts with its silky execution and overly energetic approach. It almost feels too much but it’s an absolute joy to listen to.
I absolutely wish for Guy Fieri to welcome me to another episode of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives whilst flipping the bird and lobbing a hunking chunk of Beef at me. It would knock some sense into this goo I used to call my brain. ‘Pretend You Know’ has me yearning for the summer but celebrating that we can relive it through this over and over again.
