“Spooky Cigarette, whose name is a facetious nudge at their frontman’s self-proclaimed identity as a black (spook) fag (cigarette)” might be the greatest intro to a press pack I’ve ever read, and it’s also the beginning of getting to know Spooky Cigarette and their new single ‘In Due Time’.
Straight up, this is a fantastic song. Spooky Cigarette blend together elements of Pop and Halloween themes to add a real ghostly nature to it’s sound, which seems to be built upon equal parts bubblegum pop and Bobby ‘Boris’ Pickett’s ‘Monster Mash’. It’s got the preppy drums and all the trimmings of a hook or two, and mashes it up in a way that gives it a real disjointed feel to it, which really appeals to me.
‘In Due Time’ is superb, and I think Spooky Cigarette are my new favourite now.
