The Drives return with new single “No More Romance”. The song is about the death of a relationship, and the ridiculousness that comes with using the word death in the context of love. I’ve got a similar situation in which I’ve left the bathroom door open far too many times, bringing about the death of romance (and privacy) in my relationship.
Despite its sombre lyricism and heavy topics, “No More Romance” comes in with a strong melody that creates an intro that would appeal to fans of The Strokes and Kings of Leon. Summery guitars immediately counter against the brooding verses and cut a strong contrast of emotions, referencing and celebrating the demise of something life-changing. The result is a single that’s catchy way beyond its words, while hitting deep within the soul too.
